Mackie Designs Inc. Announces Fourth Quarter and Year End Revenues for 1998

February 26, 1999 – Woodinville, Wash. – Mackie Designs Inc. (Nasdaq:MKIE) today announced earnings and revenues for fourth quarter and fiscal year ended December 31, 1998. Revenues for the fourth quarter were $34.9 million compared to $17.8 million for the comparable period in 1997. Revenues for the year increased to a record $101.0 million.

The Company generated net income of $1,351,000, or $0.11 per share, for the fourth quarter of 1998, compared to $1,166,000, or $0.09 per share, for the fourth quarter of 1997. Year to date earnings were $5,581,000, or $0.43 per share in 1998 compared with $5,537,000, or $0.41 per share in 1997.

"We have analyzed our target markets and developed new products to fill needs we see in those markets. The focus for the past three years has been very specific, that is creating new technology suited for our customer base," commented Chief Operating Officer Roy Wemyss.

"This past January we unveiled 22 new products, the results of Mackie's intense concentration on product development. It is significant that as a part of this rollout we previewed Mackie's active speaker line. We planned to enter this market with authority, in order to position Mackie as one of the leading speaker manufacturers and designers in the world.

"Equally as important, Mackie's M1400i amplifier won "Best New Power Amp of the Year" at the 1999 Music and Sound Retailer product award ceremony at NAMM," Wemyss continued. "Recognition such as this underscores Mackie's success in entering markets outside our traditional mixer market.

Annual Shareholder's Meeting

Mackie Designs Inc. also announces that its 1999 Annual Shareholder's Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 6, 1999, at 9:00 am at the Columbia Winery in Woodinville, Washington. Shareholders of record of the company's stock at the close of business on March 19, 1999 are entitled to notice of, and to vote at, the meeting.
