Mackie Designs Announces First Quarter Expectations

April 14, 1999 – Woodinville, Wa. – Mackie Designs Inc. (Nasdaq: MKIE) today announced that while its revenues for the quarter ended March 31, 1999 increased over its revenues for the comparable quarter of 1998, its earnings for the first quarter of 1999 are expected to be substantially lower that the previous quarter and the comparable quarter of 1998.

"Several factors combined to produce this first quarter result, including new product releases late in the quarter, the transition to new distribution systems in certain key European markets late in the quarter, and lower sales of the Digital 8•Bus due to dealer inventory build-up of this new product in the previous quarter," said Roy Wemyss, Chief Operating Officer. "While we are disappointed to be reporting weakness in the quarter, we remain optimistic about 1999, anticipating a very positive impact from our new product introductions and the revisions we have made to our distribution system in Europe."
