Mackie Announces More Than 7,000 UAD-1 DSP Cards Sold
NAMM • ANAHEIM, CA—JANUARY 16, 2003 – Mackie Designs Inc. (NASDAQ: MKIE) today announced that it has sold more than 7,000 units of the Mackie UAD-1 DSP card with Powered Plug-ins, making it the fastest growing multi-DAW, professional DSP platform.
"We attribute this growth to people experiencing the UAD-1’s startling reverbs, EQ’s and the mirror image classic analog emulations of the LA2A and 1176LN, rather than the compromised reflection of conventional digital plug-ins," commented Paul Rice, Vice President of Sales and Business Development at Mackie. "We have also seen tremendous growth since the introduction of Windows 2000 and Macintosh platform support early last year."
The startling realism of the UAD-1 and Powered Plug-Ins was recently underscored in comments made by Producer David Tickle, whose credits include Jackson Browne, U2, Prince, Sheryl Crow, Sting and Blondie. "There are many situations when I actually go to the UAD-1’s LA2A instead of my two rack-mounted LA2As," stated Tickle. "For instance, when I need seven simultaneous LA2As on a drum set, the sound quality and convenience of the UAD-1 is a blessing. Even if I had the budget, I simply wouldn’t be able to find five LA2As for rent here in Hawaii or the mainland that sound the same."
The Mackie UAD-1 was developed by Universal Audio and is marketed and distributed by Mackie Designs Inc. The Mackie UAD-1 package includes a proprietary high-performance DSP card, which powers a connoisseur collection of audio processors known as Powered Plug-ins. The growing family of Powered Plug-ins currently includes: the 1176LN and Teletronix LA-2A vintage compressors, the Pultec EQ, RealVerb Pro, the Nigel Guitar Processor, and the CS-1 Channel Strip. The CS-1 is comprised of plug-ins developed specifically for the UAD-1, including EQ, compression, delay modulation, and reflection engine modules. Nigel is also a suite of plug-ins, including the Pre-flex amp and speaker cabinet modeler, echo, delay modulation, tremelo, modulation filter, compressor/gate and phasor. As with the CS-1, these components can be used together or separately.
